It was 9 o’ clock in the morning of the next day and we had
a lecture of Communication & Negotiation Skills so we were sitting on our
chairs and eagerly waiting to see our communication teacher.
After 5 minutes a teacher came in and went straight to the
podium and sat on the podium with legs-crossed. And he even asked all of us to
come and sit on ground near the podium (as we are used to see in gurukuls on TV).
We all were surprised by his words because in our entire educational history
none of us had ever experienced this situation. We obeyed him and sat on the
floor. Then he asked how are you feeling now, have you ever witnessed this
thing in life and everyone started replying him in English but then to our
surprise , he said that let’s speak in Hindi. As soon as he said this our
eyebrows went up as this was to be a communication skills lecture and the lecturer
is asking us to speak in Hindi.
We asked us to ask as many questions as you want, irrelevant
of the topic and we grabbed this opportunity and asked him tons of questions and
in the meanwhile we realized that our Communication Faculty is on leave and the
one who is sitting in front of us was none other than ‘Dr. Mandi’, he was the
one we heard of before joining NITIE. His subject is ‘Principles of Management’.
As soon as we got to know that he Dr. Mandi, our diversified topics of discussion
went into a transition of a single streamelined topic and that was “MANDI”, a
pure street marketing done by NITIE Students at various places in Mumbai”.
For our better understanding of the concept of ‘MANDI’, he
took out some toys like plastic butterfly, a ball and a Newton’s Craddle and he
threw them among the students (off course not the Newton’s Craddle).
Newton' Craddle
Ball with Globe
These toys were not just toys, they were actually a source
of knowledge like balls had globe printed on it so if someone is playing with
that ball then he/she can even have a look at that ball while playing and get
to know about the location of countries. Like this every toy which he showed us
was something more than a toy.
Then he told us that ‘MANDI’ is the actual application of
the Management Lessons we get in the college as it gives an edge to us by
experiencing the actual market conditions which we all are going to face in our
near future.
Then he told that knowledge is of no use until it is put to
test in the real world and added a monetary angle to it by saying that one
hasn't utilized his education worth lakhs of rupees if he hasn't earned the
same amount while gaining that knowledge.
This is called “EARNING BY LEARNING”. And the meaning of his
famous song resides here.
" SOCHO BECHO , BECHO
SEEKHO , SEEKHO SOCHO "
&
" AAJ KI ROTI , AAJ HI
KAMANI HAI "
